Our future competitiveness depends on having a highly educated workforce, which means we need to make sure that all Americans who want a college education can get one without facing crippling debt and other obstacles.

Instead of making it harder to pay for college, we should establish criteria to measure student performance. If students perform well, their loans should be forgiven. If they do moderately well, the interest should be forgiven.

No hard-working student should graduate with a massive debt. This is a basic human right, and it’s a necessity if our workforce is going to remain competitive.
